HOW IT WORKS

Understanding Standard
On-Premise

Userful On Premise software installs on an off-the-shelf commercially available PC/Server and turns it into a browser managed video wall and display controller.

Connections

The PC/Server connects to displays over a standard ethernet network using TCP/IP. Each display needs either a zero client receiver, or supported Smart displays can use the Userful uClient App which is installed directly on the display and replaces the zero client receiver--all communication with the on premise server is done by the display itself.

How Userful Connects to Displays

Userful has two ways to connect to displays: Zero Client receivers and and Userful uClient App for smart displays. Zero client receivers are small stateless devices that have no processor or software, they connect to the screen using HDMI and have an ethernet port to connect to the network. Userful’s uClient App is software that installs directly on supported smart displays and eliminates the need for a zero client.

  Browser Based Interface

The entire solution is managed through an easy to use, drag and drop browser based interface for setting up displays and managing content. Manage locally via the LAN or use the cloud to centrally manage displays globally.

Automated Failover

Isolated network or subnet is strongly recommended for all zero client receivers.

Zero Client Receiver Video Output

Maximum output 1920x1080 @ 60FPS (1080p60) per zero client receiver.

Frame rate

30 fps (recommended)

60 fps (increases network bandwidth and GPU resources))

Upscaling Options

Scaling can be done on the server side, on the display side or both.  Server side scaling uses cubic lancos. Heavy scaling on the server side increases the number of pixels delivered through the network so may require 10gig NIC on PC and 10gig uplink port on the switch.

Sound Output
  • Admin can choose to output sound to:
    • the output jacks on the Userful server. This limits sound to one audio source.
    • 3.5mm stereo audio output jack 
    • the display directly (via HDMI cable)

Admin can also designate which zero-client device outputs the sound.

Keyboard, Mouse & USB Device Support
Userful’s Interactive Viewer  feature can be used to control the mouse and keyboard of a video wall, zone or standalone display running an interactive (desktop, remote desktop, or web browser) session.
